TEMPORARY POSITION until July 2019
BGSMath (www.bgsmath.cat) is a collaborative initiative of the research groups in mathematics of four public universities located in the Barcelona area: Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and an international research centre, Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM), member of the CERCA network. Its primary objective is to provide doctoral and postdoctoral training at the highest level in an international environment. BGSMath became a ‘Unit of Excellence Maria de Maeztu´ in 2015.
The Communication Officer will work as part of the BGSMath One Stop Office and will ensure a successful dissemination of the results achieved by the Strategic Research Programme of the BGSMath Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence. He/she will contribute to internal and external communication and assist to define and deliver successful outreach activities.
Responsibilities
· Scientific results and news identification from close and regular contact with researchers (meetings, phone calls, etc).
· Creation of content for dissemination materials (website, e-newsletter, press releases…etc) and ensure distribution.
· Leading BGSMath presence at social media: Community Manager.
· Report and disseminate BGSMath events (conferences, summer schools, etc.)
· Liaise with representatives from collaborators (such as Museu de les Matemàtiques de Catalunya, Obra Social La Caixa) and related initiatives to coordinate BGSMath public engagement activities.
· Develop and extend press strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor´s degree in mathematics, computer science, physics or similar area. Research experience is highly valued.
- Proven interest in science communication: Master’s degree in scientific communication or at least 1 year experience in managing outreach activities, scientific journalism, or previous similar roles.
- Familiar with academic environment and the Spanish/European Science and Innovation system.
- Proficient at website management, and experience in design and produce digital content. Advanced user of social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and Email Marketing Software (for instance, MailChimp).
- Full command of Spanish and Catalan. English level: equivalent to Advanced.
Work conditions:
· Duration: Until end of the project (July 2019)
· 30h/week
· Position based at the Centre de Recerca Matematica
· Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
· Expected starting date: 1st September 2017
